Studio 3a

Instructor: louis molina | Fall 2019 | Wsoa

Through a critical analysis and comparison of the historical, contemporary, and multi-cultural evolution of house and housing, the studio addresses form and meaning of the dwelling with a discussion that juxtaposes interior vs. exterior space, public vs. private space, community vs. the individual, and traditional vs.

non-traditional families. The studio focus is divided between the single-family dwelling and multiple-unit housing typologies. The course includes a sustainable materials and systems component that includes lectures and written research assignments

Sited in a beautiful historic preservation overlay zone of highland park the housing complex has bloomed from the earth raising the existing homes off the ground preserving their stake while allowing for new growth bellow. In a symbiotic relationship the drips bloom houses different mycological species being harvested above and sold bellow by an automated robotic arm.

The housing is broken down into 4 unit types the CO-OP which gives tenants minimal private space with shared bathroom and kitchen spaces, a studio best suited for an individual looking for more private space, a 1 bedroom that would happily house a couple, and a 2 bedroom that would be the perfect place to start to raise a family.
