Studio 2a

Instructor: Mark Ericson | Fall 2018 | Wsoa

Through a critical analysis and comparison of the historical, contemporary, and multi-cultural evolution of house and housing, the studio addresses form and meaning of the dwelling with a discussion that juxtaposes interior vs. exterior space, public vs. private

space, community vs. the individual, and traditional vs. non-traditional families. The studio focus is divided between the single-family dwelling and multiple-unit housing typologies.

The exterior of Concezione a Montecalvario is a exterior made up of simple polygons while the difference on the interior is the same polygons in a much more complex layout. I used this same logic when recreating the plan for my project. The exterior is a rectangular cross plan with circles being rotated around a center making variation from each part to create a asimilar whole. The interior is similar to exterior however the

difference is that the circles than adding to the plan subtract from it creating a thick out-er wall. The interior wall show difference to the exterior wall where the exterior is thick the interior is thin. This similarity is share in between the relationship of the core components to the exterior walls and the reverse relationship of the interior walls being thin to the core being thick.
